The Network has been established under the auspices of the Global Health Alliance Australia in order to support and promote the WHOCCs based in Australia. As the primary funder of the Network, the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has shown great leadership in this important area of global health engagement.

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) strategic priorities and technical workplans guide WHO activities and programs across the world. However, the WHO often relies on the expertise, advice and cooperation of WHO Collaborating Centres (WHOCC) to deliver on the priorities and execute its workplans. There are currently 50 WHOCCs in Australia.
